A salvage grocery store specializes in selling off products sent back to the grocery warehouse by a store or excess inventory sold to a liquidator by a manufacturer. Sometimes the stores are called scratch and dent stores, dented can stores or discount grocery stores.

Sometimes undamaged grocery items become salvage because their use by date was getting close, or because the item just didn’t sell well in that area. Hot Peppers may sell well in New Mexico and Texas, but not so well in New England. Sometimes the reason the item becomes salvage is seasonal. Lots of Halloween stuff shows up in November, and Christmas stuff shows up in January. Sometimes it’s a misspelled label or a product overrun. In any case, all the groceries are checked for quality by the liquidation center and by our staff at Discount Groceries and More.

Where do salvage groceries come from?

Accidents happen, even in the grocery business. If a case of green beans gets dropped, or hit by a forklift and a couple of cans get bent, those cans (and sometimes the whole case) don’t make it to the grocery store shelves. Instead, they’re sent to a reclamation center, where broken jars are discarded, cans with leaks are destroyed, etc. The rest of the products (the good stuff) are then shipped to a distributor, who then ships the salvage grocery products to a salvage grocery store.

What kind of stuff will you find at a salvage grocery store?

To really sum it up, a salvage (discount) grocery is a place where you will always find unexpected treasures. This week there may be an awesome deal on something that’s not there next week. You may be the one who picks up the last bag of the gourmet coffee for a song or not. You’ll find name brand cereals with a crunched corner or a packing knife cut on a box but still a bargain for $1.49. The big box stores can’t sell you the box with a crunched corner for $5.00 so they ship it off to an liquidator who puts together pallet loads of these groceries to sell to retailers across the country.

Usually you’ll be talking to the owner of the store or their friendly helper. No big city rush here like in the Wal-Mart or at the big box stores. Need help, just ask.

Salvage grocery stores are regulated and inspected by the USDA. This means each owner is cognizant on what can be sold and what can’t be sold. We are taught how recognize foods that are or are not safe.

What about foods that are past the Best if used by date?

The Best if used by date is the date recommended for best taste or flavor. This is how long the manufacturer wants their goods on display but usually foods will be good for, in some cases, many months beyond these dates. If most of us would check our shelves and pantries, we’d find that we’ve been eating many foods which technically have expired without knowing it.

They only foods required to have expiration dates are baby foods and infant formulas.

Everyone loves cake, it is that one pastry that will make children smile with joy and adults lick their lips in lust. This sweet product has been a staple at weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and countless other types of parties. It is the product that will make most people happy once they have its delectable taste in their mouth. This articles main focus will not be on the cake, but actually the different types of boxes that are used to store and transport them.

A cake box is usually made from cardboard and its main purpose is to be used as storage or protection of the finished product during transport. It is often ivory white and this is the most popular color that people associated with this product. Cake boxes come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and if you can think of it, they probably have it. Depending on the type of function that you are having whether birthday or wedding, you may need specialized boxes to give out to the different individuals that attend the events.

The main types of boxes are cardboard cake boxes. These as stated above are made from cardboard. They are usually in the color of white and are relatively cheap ranging anywhere from $1 up to $50 depending on the size and the shape. Another popular box is that for cupcakes. These are built specifically to hold cupcakes. They range from the ones that are used to hold individual cupcakes, all the way to the one that can hold a baker’s dozen. Wedding cake boxes come in two special categories. There are the ones that hold small pieces of wedding cake and are often given out as gifts. There is also the other one that is used to hold the main wedding cake. This one is the same as a cake box, even though it might be personalized to indicate that it contains the main cake.

Aside from boxes holding specialized cakes, there are also those that have designs on them. The first type are colored cake boxes. These boxes come in the popular colors such as white, pink, black, blue and brown. They all add a different element to the packaging of the cake. Personalized cake boxes are another type of box that differs from the mainstream ones. They often contain some type of artwork or graphics on them that make them personalized specifically to the individual’s specifications. Many stores often get these types of cake boxes to help their products stand out.

In closing the myriad of cake boxes all serve the functions of protecting and storing the cake. You will have different types of boxes that range for cupcakes, wedding cakes, and ordinary ones. For people who want to get fancy with what they do, there are boxes that can be personalized and even ones that have different colors associated with them.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

As a big fan of soda and coffee, when I first heard that Coca-Cola was going to put them together in their new Coke Blak I couldn’t wait to try it. My wife thought it sounded disgusting but I was still very eager to give it a try. Who knows, it could become my new favorite drink.

The Coca-Cola Blak website plays some jazzy little beats of music and it’s looks like a dark jazz club. I guess that’s the image their going for. It says that Coke Blak is,

A carbonated beverage that fuses Coke effervescence with coffee essence

That’s all I needed to hear, I was sold.

Actually finding it in a store was pretty hard. I definitely kept my eye out for a few months with no luck. Then, one day while shopping at the A&P, I saw some cool looking bottles tucked away in the energy drink section. Why not the soda section or the coffee section I wondered. Maybe I would have found it sooner if I knew where to look or they knew where people would be looking for it.

The cashier actually lifted the six pack of stylish bottles up for a closer look while ringing me out. She said, “This looks cool, what is it?” “Soda and coffee mixed together”, I replied. Then she remarked that she had to try it because it sounded awesome. This encounter proves that the Coca-Cola company was somehow able to make Coke Blak appeal to both 38 year old bloggers and also to teenage girls. Either that or I have the same interests as teenage girls. Hmmm…

Anyway, I rushed home and gave it a try. Definitely not what I expected. Tasted like Coke with coffee flavored syrup added to it. I was thinking that it would taste more like an espresso with Coke added to it. Since my expectations weren’t met, I was very disappointed in the drink and those cool bottles were moved to their new home in my fridge. And that’s where they stayed, unopened for a few months.

Then this morning, I decided to write this review and take a few pictures of the cool looking bottles. Why not try it again? With no expectations this time, I really enjoyed it. It’s very sweet and only has a hint of coffee flavor to it. Over ice, it’s a nice refreshing drink. I’m glad I tried it again.

So as long as you aren’t expecting an espresso drink that’s been sweetened by Coke, you’ll probably like Coke Blak.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When you look over consumer reports on mattresses you may find a lot of diversity but if you think about it, it only makes sense. If you consider how a couple may review it versus how an individual might rate one. There are a lot of different pieces to consider but broken up into segments consumer reports look a little bit like this.

Keep in mind that this is an unbiased source that took the consumer reports and what they found was most couples prefer the Simmons Beauty rest line is the best innerspring mattress. To be more specific, the Beauty rest World Class line has a no-flip design and the Simmons Triton Foundation make for a bed set that never starts to sag. This set has edge to edge support and has the inner pocket coils, which are individual coils rather than coils that are all attached. This is a great concept in keeping the motion in control. Depending on where you make your purchase and exactly which type you decide on you can expect to pay anywhere from $1,000-$2,500.

Heavier people do need to make special considerations when purchasing a mattress as they need extra support from sagging. If you sleep alone then it is not mandatory to buy it with inner pocket coils, according to consumer reports. The continuous coils on the Sealy Posturepedic work great if only one person is sleeping on the mattress. It has heavy gauge coils and offers extra support so this is the model of choice according to consumer reports. Consumers report that you should expect to pay somewhere around $450-$1,300 for that type of mattress.

Consumers rate the viscoelastic Tempur-Pedic as the choice for anyone who suffers from spine or back injuries and this claim is supported by chiropractors and doctors alike. Consumers do report that there is an adjustment period with this one before you will achieve maximum comfort and satisfaction. There also were some minor discrepancies regarding temperature. Some consumers claim that in cold weather, the mattress became much more firm and others reported that it trapped body heat. This one is around $1,800 including the foundation in a queen size.

The Sleep Number mattress uses inflatable air chambers to adjust firmness with a remote control. Consumer’s reports on it were not as good as expected. Many consumers claim that this bed is overpriced and not as comfortable as they thought it would be, especially after all of the fancy commercials claiming that both sleep partners sill have maximum comfort as each side of the bed can be adjusted according to their own comfort. It is always best to read consumer reports before making any purchase so you can see what other people who have purchased the same product have to say about it.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The purchase of shoes is an area that cannot be stressed enough in the nursing field. In the past nurses wore the traditional white shoes that set a nurse apart from other professions. Over time, this has changed, and there are several other styles available, with some nurses even choosing to wear either white or black sneakers instead of the traditional shoes. The issue with shoes is that you must toss style for comfort when you are on your feet all day long. Many women, especially the younger ones, prefer style to comfort, but in the years to follow this line of thinking will take a toll on not only their backs but feet as well.

There is a great deal of controversy among health care professional about what shoes are the best for being on your feet eight to twelve hours a day, but the majority seem to feel that Nurse Mates are far from being the most comfortable. In fact, of the reviews published on this subject, many nurses and health care professionals complained that their feet actually hurt at the end of their shift. Although in the past Nurse Mates seemed to be the industry standard, many are headed toward the New Balance walking shoe or the Naturalizer for comfort and durability. Another popular brand is Dansko, which is reported as being quite expensive but also very comfortable and durable. A great many seem to also endorse the use of Dr. Scholl’s gel insoles for taking the pressure off the back while working long shifts. Several professionals also endorse the use of custom made orthotics, but the cost at $150 a pair can be out of line for many people.

Since each person’s feet adjust to different situations differently, the best thing you can do is go to a store at the end of your shift while your feet are tired and swollen from the day’s work and try on several pair of shoes. Once you find the ones that feel the best on your feet, you may choose to go online and order them at a cheaper price than the shoe store has to offer. The important thing to remember is that when you work on your feet, you must take care of them, no matter what the cost may be. Ill-fitting shoes will not only do damage to your feet but to your back as well because of the way you will walk to ease the pain in your feet from the shoes. Even if you buy a cheap uniform at the second hand store, buy the best shoes for your individual feet and don’t give a second thought to the cost. After all, if you can’t stand on your feet in the nursing profession, you can’t do your job.

I recently saw something that really caught my eye. A company that claimed you could get unlimited vacations and also make unlimited profits. As anyone would be I was a little skeptical so I did some searching around. I then came across something that said if I wanted to try the system out I could test it out free for 7 days. I thought that was more then enough time to see what cruise to cash was all about so I signed up as a free member.

Now, when I first started reading through everything I was excited because the website said that there was no need to call any leads or spend a ton of money on advertising. They claimed the system was 98% automated. I’m a big skeptic so I was prepared for the worst, but I figured what the heck it’s free.

So I started out by going to a few forums and placing a few free ads here and there, I even wrote an article. Now the first day came and went and I said, “Ok same old deal, if I want to make any sales I’m going to have to buy leads.” But when I turned on my computer the second day to my total amazement it said I had already gotten 3 signups. Now two of them were free members but one actually signed up. I didn’t even have to talk to them or anything. That’s when I realized what they were talking about when they said they had a system that closed deals for you. I was very excited and angry at the same time. I was excited, because I was happy that the system worked. Angry because I was mad that I hadn’t signed up earlier. Reason being as a free member I was not eligible to receive any commission. The free test drive is more for getting a look at all of the tools and training they have. I was still happy though because not too long after I signed up one of the two people that were free members signed up so that made me feel a lot better.

So now whenever anyone asks, is cruise to cash a scam, I just point them towards the website and wait for them to sign up. I also wanted to add that their training is very good. Their back office has everything you need to get going. And as I said earlier, you really don’t have to worry about calling and trying to close leads any more because the cruise to cash system takes care of it for you.

So in closing, is cruise to cash a scam? Absolutely not, it’s a very good company that’s easy to market, (everyone loves vacations) and gives you unlimited vacations at the same time so it’s a win/ win.

If you’re a Naruto fan, then you know how the Sharingan red eyes peer deep into the soul of anyone the contact. For those who aren’t Naruto fans, Sharingan have deep red eyes, circled by a thin black line with either 3 or 4 black dots arranged in a semi-circular pattern around the cornea.

Since the Sharingan are so popular, there are a few companies that have started making sharingan contact lenses. These contact lenses look exactly like you see on all of the Naruto shows. I have two of these contact lenses in person, and both looked spectactular.

The first sharingan contact lens I saw resembled a radioactive sign with 2 dots at the top and one dot in the middle below the top two dots. These contacts had a thin black line around the outside that faded into the middle. They looked good, but not as good as a the second set of contacts I saw. The second pair looked like exact duplicates.

The second pair of Sharingan contacts I saw were hand painted and looked like they were created by the same artist the drew the Sharingan. The lenses were the standard red and black. The full contact was red with a thin black line bordering the outside. In the middle, the pupil was black and there was another faint black line outside the pupil. Attached to that line were two dots in the north west and south east corners of the eye. An exact replication!

These lenses will instantly connect you with any Naruto fans you come in contact with. They’re perfect for conventions and meet ups with other fans.

Next time you’re at a Comic Con, make sure and look for other people wearing Naruto contact lenses!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Melaleuca, the wellness company, often referred to as simply “Melaleuca” is a 780 million dollar nutritional, cosmetic and personal care company founded in 1985 by Frank L. VanderSloot . The “new company” was created after a previous division of Melaleuca was marketing products with false claims not backed by the FDA. He made the compensation plan more favorable to Marketing Executives, by establishing Consumer Direct Marketing. Independent Representatives were no longer required to sell products but instead became membership enrollment facilitators. Since VanderSloot has taken the helm, Melaleuca has experienced consistently increasing sales and revenues and expanded internationally.

While initially based predominantly on melaleuca plant extracts, the product line has since expanded beyond this initial focus. Melaleuca now markets over 350 items such as household cleaners, personal care items, pharmaceuticals and nutritional supplements. The company markets itself as being earth-friendly, and many of their products are certified organic. They also launched a cosmetics line in partnership with fashion designer Nicole Miller in January 2003.

Melaleuca claims to focus on developing products that support a healthy lifestyle and are safer for the home. In the home, the company focuses on researching and bringing to market cleaning products that use more natural cleaning products that are claimed to be safer than “harsh chemicals.” Melaleuca touts that its products are as good or better than what is found at the local grocery store, but without the bleach, lye, or other chemicals typically found in other brands.

Melaleuca is a Multi Level Marketing Company. Like any Multi Level Marketing Company to achieve success you must build a substantial downline that continues to use the products and promote the business. Melaleuca is not a scam. The company has good leadership and a great line of products that can benefit your life and the lives of your customers. While this business is not a scam substantial success is only reserved for those who have the tenacity to continually recruit new people, attend and promote hotel meetings, attend and promote product parties and attend company sponsored seminars. In order to have a solid six figure income you will need 100’s of people in your downline and you will have to constantly replace those that are dropping out. While my review conclusion is that the business opportunity is average, Melaleuca has a wide range of great products that you as a customer would benefit from.
